Butyl Acrylate (CAS No. 141-32-2), or n-butyl acrylate, is a low Tg acrylate monomer that is produced by the esterification of acrylic acid with n-butanol. Butyl acrylate is often used in chemical manufacturing and polymerized with high Tg monomers like methyl methacrylate, Styrene, and Vinyl Acetate in order to balance the properties of the final polymer. Incorporating butyl acrylate into a polymer helps to improve tack, flexibility, impact resistance, and overall durability. The flexibility and tack provided by butyl acrylate make it an ideal monomer for producing polymers used in adhesive and sealant formulas.
