Guardrail Shortage Addressed by Manufacturer
As the availability of used highway guardrail panels diminishes, manufacturers have stepped in to meet the growing demand. Tom Calton of All Rail, located in Rutherfordton, N.C., states, “We are now producing new rails that are easier to use and maintain a consistent quality.”
Introduction of Livestock Steel Panels
To complement the needs of livestock producers, All Rail has introduced Livestock Steel, a galvanized, roll-formed livestock fencing panel. Calton explains, “These panels are designed to match seamlessly with the standard used highway guardrails commonly adopted by livestock producers nationwide. We needed to secure a solution to support the increasing demand.”
Cost-Effectiveness and Specifications
The newly manufactured panels are often more affordable than their used counterparts, particularly when ordered in truckload quantities. “Livestock Steel panels are precisely the same dimensions as the standard 26-ft long by 12-in wide W-beam used highway guardrails," Calton notes. "The mounting and splice holes, as well as post spacing slots, are identical. Our panels are uniform in length, always straight, and clean,” he adds.
Material Strength and Quality
While the new panels are constructed from 15-gauge steel, the older used highway guardrails may be made from 12-gauge steel. However, Calton assures, “The 15-gauge steel is sufficiently strong for livestock applications. We utilize only high-quality galvanized steel, and our panels are manufactured on a highway guardrail production line.”
Inventory and Shipping Options
Calton mentions that the company still offers used highway guardrails for sale. "However, by producing our own guardrails, we can provide a reliable, high-quality product with an unlimited supply at an affordable rate.”
Both new and used guardrails can be drop-shipped directly, or customers may arrange for pickup at supply yard locations on the East or West Coast. For best pricing, Calton encourages customers to reach out directly.
