What is CRACK AGENT / Expansive Mortar?

CRACK AGENT (Expansive Mortar) is a powder with an impressive 18,000 PSI expansive strength when mixed with water. When poured into drilled holes, CRACK AGENT safely and quietly breaks reinforced concrete and rock, allowing for controlled demolition without noise, vibration, or dust. It is highly effective for breaking concrete and stone into desired sizes and shapes.

In the demolition, concrete cutting, and excavation industries, CRACK AGENT makes it easier to break reinforced concrete and rock into manageable chunks, enabling the easy removal of rebar with a crane or truck while preserving the remaining structure.

In mining and quarrying, CRACK AGENT helps achieve perfect slabs and blocks of limestone, onyx, marble, granite, or other stones. Compared to blasting, CRACK AGENT minimizes waste, reduces insurance costs, and lowers labor requirements. It can be combined with traditional methods such as primer cord, hydraulic breakers, diamond blade saws, and jackhammers to cut costs, shorten work time, and enhance safety. Additionally, its silent operation makes it ideal for use in residential areas, schools, and airports, ultimately increasing efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

There are four types of crack agents available, tailored for varying working temperatures.

How to Use

Drilling

1. Use an air hammer drill with a suitable drill bit for the rock type.

2. Drill holes 30-60 cm apart (1 ft-2 ft). In reinforced concrete, keep them no more than 20 cm (8 inches) apart.

3. Recommended hole diameter is 38mm - 50mm (1 ½" - 2"). Depth should be 70-90% of the way depending on the rock/material type.

Mixing

1. For safety, use rubber gloves when mixing small amounts by hand.

2. In a bucket, combine 1.5 liters of water with one 5 kg bag of CRACK AGENT. Alternatively, maintain a 1:3 ratio of water to CRACK AGENT by weight.

3. Mix thoroughly; using a drill and paddle is recommended to dissolve the powder entirely to form a slurry.

Filling

1. Clean holes with an air hose to remove dust before filling.

2. Pour the CRACK AGENT slurry into the holes within 10-15 minutes after mixing. Do not fill to the top; leave about 15 mm (½" to 1") from the top.

3. Pour while agitating the hole to eliminate air gaps, using a rod or stick if necessary.

4. For horizontal holes, a grouting pump is recommended for reliable pouring.

Cracking

Cracks will begin to appear 40-60 minutes after filling, depending on weather, rock, and concrete type, gradually widening within a maximum of 48 hours.

Benefits

  • Amazing Expansive Capability: 18,000 PSI expansive strength when mixed with water.
  • Easy to Use: No training is necessary. Just mix with water and fill the holes. It can be poured into holes that explosives are usually placed in.
  • Non-Explosive & Environmentally Friendly: An alternative to more hazardous methods, CRACK AGENT operates quietly without dust or vibration.
  • Efficient and Cost-Effective: No special license or equipment is needed.

Packaging

The product is packed as follows:

  1. 5 kg in a plastic bag
  2. 4 plastic bags in 1 carton
  3. 50-60 cartons per wooden or plastic pallet

Tips for Use

  • Design holes to minimize CRACK AGENT consumption by achieving desired sizes.
  • Ensure CRACK AGENT has sufficient free space to expand.
  • Be aware of both air and material temperatures; ensure accurate measurements, especially in summer when it's best to work in cooler temperatures.
  • Cover holes with a tarp or damp hay to prevent direct sunlight.
  • If CRACK AGENT dries without cracking, adding water may help.
  • Dampen highly absorbent materials before pouring the mortar, but avoid excess water.
  • Pour fresh mortar into holes within 5 minutes after mixing.
  • Ensure synchronized operations among workers to maximize expansive stress.
  • If CRACK AGENT produces steam during mixing, dilute it with additional water.

Safety Precautions

Ensure all personnel are aware of potential blowouts, and study the technical instructions thoroughly. CRACK AGENT is highly alkaline, with a pH of 13 upon contact with water, and may cause severe irritation, particularly to eyes and skin. Rinse affected areas immediately and seek medical help as required.

Wear safety goggles and gloves, and apply a dust mask in poorly ventilated areas. Plug holes immediately after filling and cover them with straw mats. Maintain a safe distance from filled holes for at least three hours to avoid blowouts. If any mortar begins to smoke or steam, evacuate the area immediately and avoid using warm or bubbling mortar.
